HERZOGENAURACH (dpa-AFX) - The demand for the German national soccer team's jerseys is clearly exceeding the expectations of the manufacturer Adidas. "We will sell more than three times as many jerseys as originally calculated," Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen told the German Press Agency. However, he did not give any concrete figures.

Pink jersey sold out in many places

The continuing popularity of the jerseys is also noticeable in the stores. A look at the manufacturer's online store on Tuesday shows: The national team's pink away jerseys are currently sold out. Only remaining sizes of the jerseys are currently available online, said Brüggen. However, most of the DFB jerseys are still available in the sporting goods manufacturer's stores and from retail partners.

"In order to continue to meet the high demand, we are in daily contact with our partners regarding additional jersey quantities and will continue to produce more jerseys beyond the end of the tournament," assured Brüggen.

The focus of jersey sales is on specialist retailers, who sell more than two thirds, said Brüggen. "Thanks to early stockpiling, we were able to ensure that specialist retailers received significantly more merchandise than originally ordered," said the spokesperson.

Kroos and "Wusiala" most popular

The version with the shirt number 8 of Champions League winner Toni Kroos was ordered particularly frequently, said Brüggen. But the names and shirt numbers of the DFB duo "Wusiala", i.e. Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, are also very popular.

Adidas recently announced that the national team's pink away jersey has become a historic bestseller. The pink away jersey is the best-selling away jersey in the history of all DFB jerseys, it said.

The pink and purple jersey is not only very popular among German supporters. The eldest son of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was also photographed wearing the coveted DFB away jersey on his birthday.

Bayern President Herbert Hainer also approves of the pink DFB jersey. "I think the fact that the German jerseys are pink at this tournament is a success, and not just from a fashion point of view: Germany is colorful - sport and a tournament like this can also convey that," he said in an interview with the media group "Münchner Merkur/tz" (Wednesday)./pul/DP/mis
