Saturday morning, Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, restored the connection to Pokémon GO, which it had closed on Friday. Proximus customers with a subscription can again play Pokémon GO for free via the Proximus network without worries.
Indeed, Niantic Inc., the developer of GO Pokémon, had activated security measures on its servers, causing the loss of a lot of connections on the Proximus network. These measures had been activated due to misuse by a player using an anonymous prepaid card.
Following constructive discussions between Niantic and Proximus, the connection between the Proximus network and Pokémon GO was restored early Saturday morning.
Proximus will maintain its promotion of free mobile data (until 31 October) for its customers with a subscription. However, to avoid future harmful misuse of the game on the Niantic platform via prepaid cards, Proximus has decided to discontinue the offer for customers using a prepaid card as of Saturday. The prepaid customers were informed of this decision by SMS.
Proximus and Niantic deplore this incident, the misuse of the free mobile data offer and its impact on many of the customers. Thanks to the good collaboration between the two companies, a solution could be found in a nick of time. With this change, customers with a subscription can again fully enjoy the action of Proximus on free use of Pokémon GO data.
