• Woolworths Donates $100,000 to the Salvation Army
  • Customers can donate at checkouts nationally

Statement by Grant O'Brien, Chief Executive Officer
8 January 2013

Like all Australians, and especially being Tasmanian born, I have been shocked and saddened by the devastation caused by the recent bushfires in Tasmania. Our hearts go out to all those people and communities affected.

Woolworths' primary focus is to ensure the safety of our staff and customers and to ensure that we maintain continued supply of essential items to stores in affected areas. Over the weekend we have been working closely with emergency services to help crews and volunteers wherever we can.

Today, Woolworths Limited has donated $100,000 to The Salvation Army to go towards Tasmanian relief efforts.

Our customers can also make donations at any Woolworths supermarket, Woolworths online or BIG W checkout by selecting the option to donate at the point of payment. Their nominated donation amount will be added to their grocery bill, and all donations over $2 will receive a separate tax receipt on the spot.

Woolworths has 69 stores in Tasmania including supermarkets, BIG W, BWS, Petrol and hardware stores and distribution centres. We also have more than 5,100 employees across the state.

Woolworths is proud to support The Salvation Army and other state emergency services, and will continue to assist with their relief efforts.
