Ecopetrol and Petrobras announce the start of drilling the Uchuva-2 well, in the Tayrona Block, in the Colombian Caribbean, as part of the commitment to incorporate the natural gas that the country needs to leverage the just energy transition.

This well, which has the character of an evaluator, will validate the dimension of the natural gas discovery announced in July 2022 in the Uchuva1 exploratory well, located in deep waters (837 meters of water surface), approximately 32 km as the crow flies from the coast and 76 km from the city of Santa Marta.

In the Tayrona Block, Petrobras is the operator with a 44.4% stake and Ecopetrol with 55.6%.

Ecopetrol has been working intensively for several months, through an interdisciplinary team, on the consolidation and development of a portfolio of offshore projects that will allow gas to be obtained to meet the expectations of the energy transition.

'Uchuva-1 is considered a very significant discovery for Ecopetrol and Colombia because it ratified the importance of the Caribbean as one of the main sources of gas for our country. Uchuva-2 will allow us to obtain more information about what has been discovered and the necessary information about the field for the planning and execution of the connection with consumption centers, contributing to the country's supply,' explained Elsa Jeanneth Jaimes, Ecopetrol's Offshore Vice President.
