A prestigious global event
The Longines Global Champions Tour is an annual event that brings together the top 30 ranked riders in the world of jumping to compete in 14 events across 12 countries, for a total season prize money of around €9 million (USD $12.5 million). The tour hosts Olympic, World and Regional Champions. The events can be watched live online on GCT TV and on Eurosport and national networks and reaches a target audience of millions of spectators globally.
With the welfare of the competing horses a top priority, in 2012 the Tour launched a unique mobile veterinary clinic initiative to provide top-class care facilities for the horses competing on the circuit. The brainchild of Italian veterinarian Alessandro Centinaio, this veterinary clinic is available on-site to all horses participating in the Championship series, 24 hours a day, for the duration of the event. The fully-equipped clinic truck, realized thanks to the support of companies such as Agfa HealthCare and featuring state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapy machines, travels to every event on the Tour.
Dedicated veterinary solutions and software
For the 2014 season, Agfa HealthCare is a technical sponsor of the mobile clinic, which includes a CR 15-X digitizer and Equine DR 35 digital detector solution. The table-top CR 15-X digitizer has a modular yet robust design offering high image quality, adjustable speed and a user-tuned workflow. The wireless mobile veterinary Equine DR 35 solution is compact, easy to work with and flexible. Ideal for equine vets in the field, it offers wireless image transmission; efficient, fast workflow; improved exam speed; and excellent image quality. It comes with a notebook featuring NX workstation software and dedicated MUSICA for Large Animals image processing software. The Agfa HealthCare equipment will be used when X-ray screening will be required during the event.
"We are extremely pleased to be a Technical Sponsor for the Mobile Horse Vet Clinic at this prestigious event," says Louis Kuitenbrouwer, Vice President Imaging Division of Agfa HealthCare. "It is an ideal match for our high-quality, mobile solutions dedicated to the specific needs of veterinarians in the field, and gives us the opportunity to demonstrate concretely how we have put over 100 years of experience in diagnostic imaging to work for animal care, with both mobile and fixed solutions."
