The Paris Bourse ended the session down 0.55% at 6,869 points, penalized in particular by declines for Eurofins Scientific (-3.6%), Saint-Gobain (-2.4%) and Société Générale (-2.1%).

This slight downturn does not detract from the Paris index's impressive start to the year, which has still gained 6% since January 1.

Investors were cautious today, particularly after a member of the Fed said on Monday evening that the cost of money would reach at least 5% this year, but also because they feared that Jerome Powell would confirm this statement during his speech on the independence of central banks at a symposium organized in Stockholm by the Riksbank, Sweden's central bank

But the Fed Chairman made no comment on inflation, the recession or current monetary policy... Against this backdrop, Wall Street's three main indices held firm, with the S&P500 and Dow Jones stable and the Nasdaq gaining just 0.2%.

In the absence of any major statistical releases, investors seem to be struggling to find anything to push forward the New Year's rally, which ended up taking the CAC above the 6900-point threshold yesterday.

This morning, operators were nonetheless able to take note of a rebound in manufacturing output in France in November (+2.4% after -2.1%), as in industry as a whole (+2% after -2.5%), according to Insee's CVS-CJO data.

On the interest rate front, consolidation is the order of the day, with OATs +8pts to 2.795%, Bunds +8pts to 2.29%... and BTPs tightening by 4pts to 4.203%.

US T-Bonds rise from 3.515 to 3.61%, but the Dollar remains weak at 1.0745E, stabilizing against the main currencies at 103.2 but remaining on a downtrend.

In company news, Renault Group announces the signing of a binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the PUNCH Torino center of excellence on their cooperation on Renault 4-cylinder diesel engines for light commercial vehicles

Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, announces that it has been awarded a major contract by Meridian Energy to build New Zealand's first large-scale grid-connected BESS (battery energy storage system).

Getlink reports that in December 2022, Le Shuttle carried 194,921 passenger vehicles, an increase of 104% on December 2021. Since January 1, over 2.1 million passenger vehicles (i.e. cars, motorcycles, trailer vehicles, caravans, motorhomes and coaches) have crossed the Channel on Le Shuttle, a figure up 122%.
