NEW YORK (AP) _ Valley National Bancorp (VLY) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter profit of $115 million.

The New York-based bank said it had earnings of 27 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions, came to 28 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 30 cents per share.

The holding company for Valley National Bank posted revenue of $378.2 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $353.5 million, exceeding Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $346.3 million.

For the year, the company reported profit of $473.8 million, or $1.12 per share. Revenue was reported as $1.36 billion.
