Procter & Gamble Co. introduced a new model of the Braun Series 9 electric shaver that costs nearly $330 to its biggest market, the United States. The company said the new Series 9 model can deliver up to 50,000 shaves. The Series 9 model designated the 9290 has a silver finish, while the one designated 9295 has a chrome finish. The new model has been available in Europe since the fall. Each comes with a charger stand and will be available in the United States through Amazon, Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and Best Buy for a suggested retail price of $299 to $329. The new model of the Series 9 features an enhanced titanium-coated trimmer that provides the world's most efficient shave, which refers to the amount of hair length the shaver removes per stroke or unit of time, P&G stated. The claim was based on consumer tests of the Braun Series 9, which is an oscillating shaving system, and four competing shavers. The competing devices tested were premium shavers from Philips, Panasonic, and Remington including two rotating shaving systems (Philips Series 9000 and Remington HyperFlex) and two oscillating shaving systems (Panasonic Lamdash 5 and Remington SmartEdge Pro). The Braun Series 9's HyperLift & Cut Trimmer is coated with titanium nitride, which P&G claims improves the shaver's ability to glide over the skin with a low level of friction and protects from corrosion and wear. The model's flexible SyncroSonic shaving head and OptiFoil shaving foils were designed to navigate facial contours and trim every type of hair as close to the skin as possible. And the shaver is compatible with water, foam and gel grooming products. The Braun Series 9 has a rubberized grip and can even be used in the shower. It also can be rinsed under running water for easy cleaning. The Series 9 can be fully charged in one hour and shave for 50 minutes, according to P&G. An LED display shows battery status, hygiene status and travel lock indicator. The center cutting elements were engineered to minimize the risk of top layers of skin being cut and to avoid irritation. A Protective SkinGuard catches stubble and beard hairs, requiring fewer strokes than a typical razor and creating less tugging and pulling at the skin surface even with several days of growth.
