PALMA (dpa-AFX) - From Monday, there could be delays or even cancellations of flights to Mallorca due to striking ground staff. The unionized employees of Wings Handling Palma (WHP) for the airline Eurowings at the airport of the vacation island have been called to industrial action, the union GVA announced on Thursday. Monday, July 1, Friday, July 5, Sunday, July 7, Wednesday, July 10, Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 were named as possible strike days.

The union justified the threat with "constant attacks on employees' rights by management", a lack of risk prevention, outdated equipment, poor training and gender discrimination. Due to the high cost of living in Mallorca, salaries are now also too low.

However, it was not yet clear whether the 265 employees of Wings Handling would actually go on strike. In Spain, strikes are often called off at the last minute after concessions have been made. Last summer, Wings Handling wanted to stop work, but then reached an agreement with the employer's side./rpz/DP/jha
