Yarrabilba will soon be transformed into a fresh food shopping and dining out precinct, as Coles, cafes, restaurants and fast food outlets move into the new District Centre precinct.

The first stage will include a 3,300 square metres full line Coles supermarket, with future stages proposed to include a mix of specialty retail shops, and other ancillary retail and commercial uses.

Managing Director of Lendlease's Communities business in Australia, Matthew Mears said this major milestone is further evidence of the growing popularity of Yarrabilba.

'We are focused on creating the best places and providing our residents as early as possible options for dining, great shopping and entertainment is how we deliver on this aspiration. We encourage social interaction and balance the integration of residential, commercial and recreational facilities into a vibrant village setting.

'Attracting residents and locals alike means developing a central hub with the end user in mind and catering for the needs of the community as it continually grows and evolves,' he said.

Coles State General Manager for Queensland Paul Bradshaw said the new market-style supermarket would create around 300 construction and retail jobs in the region.

'Construction of the new supermarket is expected to create around 200 jobs and once it's complete we will welcome around 100 team members to work at the store,' he said.

'We look forward to bringing local residents a brand new Coles supermarket focused on delivering quality, service and value.'

Other sites sold include a Caltex service station incorporating a Star Mart convenience store, which is under construction, with a plan to be open in December 2015. Yarrabilba's first medical centre is also due to commence construction on Yarrabilba Drive in early 2016, with a planned operational opening in mid-2016.

An IGA anchored convenience centre on Yarrabilba Drive is due to be operational in September 2016 and a surrounding two stage development is planned, featuring a mix of medium density residential, including the first apartments, plus additional retail and commercial suites.

It is estimated that over 800 equivalent full time jobs will be created from the delivery of these various developments contained within the District Centre.

A series of footpaths, bike trails and pedestrian friendly streets throughout Yarrabilba will link the community quickly and easily to the village centre and all of the surrounding amenities, positioning it as the vibrant hub of Yarrabilba.

Yarrabilba will become home to more than 45,000 people over the next 30 years, covering 2,012 hectares of land between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Eventually more than 17,000 new homes will be constructed at Yarrabilba along with shopping centres, schools, employment generating businesses, extensive parks and recreational facilities.
