Ericsson has announced that it has reached "an important milestone" alongside Deutsche Bahn (DB), Telefónica and Vantage Towers in their collaboration to establish Gigabit mobile and data connections on trains in Germany.

Called the 'Gigabit Innovation Track' (GINT), the project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport to the tune of around 6.4 million euros, was launched in May 2023.

Thanks to 5G mobile technology, rail travelers should be able to communicate, work or relax while watching a film on the move in future, just like at home.

According to experts, this will require data rates of up to 5 gigabits per second per train by the early 2030s.
