ABB Ltd. said Wednesday that it has won a contract with shipbuilding company Guangzhou Shipyard International Co. Ltd to supply integrated solutions for P&O Ferries' two new vessels.
The Swiss engineering company said the solutions will cut fuel consumption on the Dover-Calais route by 40%. The 230-meter-long vessels will be the largest passenger and freight ferries to sail the route once they start service in 2023.
ABB didn't disclose the financial terms of the contract.
P&O Ferries is a British company operating ferries from the U.K. to Ireland and Continental Europe.
