ZURICH, May 23 (Reuters) - Swiss engineering group ABB said on Thursday it was making two new appointments to its executive committee from August.

The company said Giampiero Frisio would become the new president of its Electrification Business Area and Brandon Spencer the new president of its Motion Business Area. Both will take on their new roles and join the executive committee on Aug. 1.

Frisio, an Italian who has been division president of Smart Power (Electrification Business Area) since 2018, will succeed Morten Wierod who is becoming ABB's new CEO as of Aug. 1.

Spencer, a U.S. citizen who has been division president of Energy Industries (Process Automation Business Area) since 2020, will succeed Tarak Mehta, who is leaving ABB to become CEO of Timken Group after more than 25 years with ABB.

The firm also said Mathias Gaertner will join the committee latest on Oct. 1, 2024 as general counsel and company secretary. (Writing by Dave Graham; Editing by Noele Illien)
