Data published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) show that U.S. crude oil inventories totaled 457 million barrels in the week to May 6, down 2.5 million barrels on the previous week's level.

In detail, inventories of distillate products - including heating oil - were down "slightly", according to the report, while gasoline stocks were down 0.2 million barrels on the previous week, the agency continued.

Finally, the EIA states that refineries operated at 90.4% of their operational capacity during the same week, with average production of 9.7 million barrels/day.
