Veolia Environnement announced it had signed a contract to manage drinking water services in the Japanese city of Hakone, west of Tokyo. The five year deal, won jointly with Japanese JFE Engineering, a unit of JFE Holdings, will start in April 2014 and is worth EUR 28 million, but only half of the sum is for Veolia. The contract, which includes production, distribution, customer services, construction and renovation of infrastructure, will service some 6,000 residents of Hakone.
