The head of Italy's Banco BPM S.p.A. (BIT:BAMI) has not been in contact with the newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit S.p.A. (BIT:UCG), a spokeswoman for Banco BPM said on April 22, 2021, after a report the two had met over a potential tie-up. Italian news website Dagospia said Andrea Orcel, who took the reins at UniCredit last week, had met with Banco BPM Chief Executive Officer Giuseppe Castagna as he prepared to take over Italy's third-largest bank. UniCredit was not immediately available for comment.
