On July 19, 2018, Elliot Management Corp. announced that Thyssenkrupp AG should appoint an external candidate to lead the company after long-serving CEO Heinrich Hiesinger resigned in early July 2018. Elliot Management also stated that the appointment of Guido Kerkhoff as interim CEO should be temporary while the board evaluates external candidates, the interim period must be kept short so that Company may quickly be set on a path to prosperity and growth and the shareholders expect an unbiased search for a new external CEO, driven by what is best for the company and all of its stakeholders, including shareholders.
