Michigan Department of Transportation entered into an agreement to acquire 135 miles of railroad from Norfolk Southern Railway Company for $140 million on December 7, 2012. The $140 million used to purchase the line includes FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) High-speed Intercity Passenger Rail Program grant funds and a state match of $37.5 million. The acquisition is expected to close in 2013.
