Snam, TenarisDalmine, a Tenaris Group company, and Tenova today launched the first trial conducted in Italy at a steel plant involving the use of hydrogen in the processing of steel products.

According to a joint note, the collaboration will have an initial duration of six months and aims to evaluate the performance and reliability of using hydrogen in the steel industry and, more generally, in the 'hard-to-abate' sectors that are most difficult to decarbonize.

In detail, the aim is to use hydrogen produced in situ to power a burner recently developed by Tenova, installed in a reheating furnace for hot rolling seamless pipes, at TenarisDalmine's plant in Dalmine, in the province of Bergamo.
