A consortium including Ericsson, Siemens and Simacan has won a contract to develop a cloud platform to manage 'smart' motorways in the Netherlands. The Fortgang consortium won the contact from the Infrastructure and Environment ministry and will develop the platform on behalf of provincial governments and the national transport agency who manage the roads. Cars and lorries with the technology on board will give and receive feedback about road conditions, such as security issues or floods.

The system will be introduced in phases starting this year, with full service planned for 2020.
