Workers at Shougang Hierro Peru voted to strike August 18, 2014 the third time in the past year. The company miners, who staged a two-day labor stoppage in June, are demanding a PEN 10 (USD 3.57) daily wage increase, while the company is offering 3 soles. Workers are also demanding better working conditions including an ambulance, uniforms and lunch.

Under Peruvian legislation, the labor ministry can set a wage increase if company and union officials are unable to reach an agreement.
