NAVER LABS to Build New Metaverse Ecosystem with ARCVERSE

- NAVER LABS introduces 'ARCVERSE', a new cutting-edge metaverse ecosystem that seamlessly connects the real world with digital spaces

- HD mapping solution 'ALIKE' and multi-robot intelligence system 'ARC' to utilize a large number of core technologies, such as robotics, autonomous driving and 5G, to build the architecture of ARCVERSE

- NAVER LABS expands partnerships with local Korean government, businesses and academia to advance its technological ecosystem

- NAVER LABS to collaborate with SoftBank on HD mapping in Japan-another example of how the company is creating new business opportunities through future technologies

Seongnam, Korea (Dec. 1, 2021) - NAVER LABS today revealed more details about ARCVERSE, a new metaverse ecosystem that it announced at NAVER's recent developer conference, DEVIEW 2021. NAVER LABS also shared its latest achievements and future research and development (R&D) objectives, reaffirming its commitment to global expansion with partners, such as Softbank.

ARCVERSE seamlessly connects real world and digital spaces through AI, robotics, cloud and digital twins

First revealed at DEVIEW 2021 in November, ARCVERSE integrates NAVER's online services with the physical world using cutting-edge technologies.

ARCVERSE is the convergence of two key NAVER LABS technologies-ARC and ALIKE-that link physical and digital spaces on one platform. ARC is NAVER LABS' multi-robot intelligence system that connects and controls a network of brainless robots using NAVER Cloud and 5G technology. ALIKE is NAVER LABS' proprietary technology that creates virtual representations of real indoor and outdoor spaces.

"With the goal of connecting NAVER's online services to the physical world, NAVER LABS spent years persistently developing a wide range of future technologies, including robotics, AI, autonomous driving, digital twins, 5G and augmented reality (AR)," said Dr. Sangok Seok, CEO of NAVER LABS.

"Most importantly, ARCVERSE can create a digital copy that seamlessly interacts with its real-world counterpart via technology, not just a separate virtual space. It can offer the same experience to users, both virtually and physically," Dr. Seok added, emphasizing that ARCVERSE is different from other 3D avatar-based virtual reality services.

Through ARCVERSE, online solutions and systems will be connected to innovative services and infrastructure in the real world.

"We have been able to quickly put our technologies to work thanks to 1784-NAVER's second headquarters building-which serves as a testbed," said Dr. Seok. He expressed his hopes that the second headquarters will be the first building where NAVER LABS' leading technologies converge.

NAVER LABS collaborates with Softbank on HD mapping in Japan

Dr. Seok also revealed that NAVER LABS is working with Softbank on HD mapping as a part of its global expansion of its leading ALIKE technology. NAVER LABS will conduct a city-level, high-precision mapping project, using the ALIKE solution in Japan.

"We expect that this mapping project in Japan using NAVER LABS' technology will create new business opportunities," said Mr. Junichi Miyakawa, CEO of Softbank, showing his confidence in the project.

Mr. Seok underlined that NAVER LABS will continuously invest in R&D to refine its technologies, while exploring more business opportunities with NAVER Cloud in the long term. "NAVER Cloud will work closely with NAVER LABS to enable various partners to utilize NAVER LABS' key technologies such as ALIKE and ARC through NAVER Cloud, catering to the rising demands for digital transformation."

Dr. Sangok Seok, CEO of NAVER LABS, explaining NAVER LABS' ARCVERSE platform

"The elements of ARCVERSE, such as cloud and digital twins, can stand alone as a service, or be combined to create completely new solutions. We are confident that ARCVERSE will have unlimited applications, and the possibilities are endless," said Mr. Seok, closing the meetup by highlighting that NAVER LABS creates new connections through technology.
