COLOGNE/PALMA (dpa-AFX) - Majorca vacationers can breathe a sigh of relief: The airline Eurowings has averted strikes by its ground staff at Palma airport. An agreement was reached at the subsidiary "Wings Handling" on Friday, the company announced in Koln. This would both improve the working conditions of the employees and take into account the competitiveness of the company. The agreement has a term of two years.

The GVA union had initially called on the 265 employees to take industrial action from next Monday (July 1). This would have jeopardized the handling of hundreds of Mallorca flights during the main holiday season. Eurowings promised, among other things, the conversion of part-time contracts and additional vacation entitlement in the summer. The Lufthansa subsidiary flies by far the most connections from Germany to the Balearic island./ceb/DP/mis
