Itron, Inc. and ClipperCreek announced that Tennessee Valley Authority, provider of electricity to nine million people across seven southeastern states, will install revenue-grade electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in collaboration with selected distributors in its territory. Installation of the charging stations is scheduled to begin in mid-2013. The solution includes ClipperCreek charging stations embedded with Itron sensor technologies, such as revenue-grade metrology, cellular communications and a ZigBee(R) communication module.

With these charging stations, TVA can charge utility service vehicles while accurately measuring energy used. In addition, TVA can retrieve interval data collected at the charging station through a ZigBee smart meter interface. The stations allow for flexible control of charging, receiving inputs from TVA, local distribution companies or local charging station operators.
