The Encuentro-Lagunas transmission line, 220-kV double circuit, started operations aiming at strengthening the Norte Grande grid and relieving the existing transmission lines in the areas between Pozo Almonte and María Elena.
This project involved an investment of USD100 million and included the construction of 192 kilometers of lines, 443 high-voltage towers and the expansion of the Encuentro and Lagunas Substations.
With the entry into operation of the Encuentro-Lagunas transmission line, ISA INTERCHILE - a local subsidiary of the ISA Colombian Group- officially announced its entry as a relevant player of the Chilean energy transmission system. Encuentro-Lagunas is the first ISA's investment initiative in Chile and it consists of a 220-kV high-voltage transmission line and double circuit. Its 192 kilometers go from the areas of Pozo Almonte, in the Tarapacá region, until María Elena, in the Antofagasta region. This transmission line strengthens the Norte Grande Transmission System, as well as relieves the existing lines between the Encuentro and Lagunas substations, in line with the Government's Energy Agenda. This will provide greater security, reliability, and sustainability to the country's grids. In this regard, ISA INTERCHILE's CEO, Jorge Rodríguez, assessed the entry into operation of Encuentro-Lagunas line and said: 'We are determined to become a relevant player in the Chilean energy system, and consequently this project is a milestone for our company and the Company Group. We will continue working to fulfill the commitments made with the country in the field of energy development, as well as participating in future tenders which allows us to expand our investment portfolio and projects in this country.' Finally, it comprised an investment of more than USD100 MM, 443 high-voltage towers, 5.200 tons of structure and a total of 1.200 km of conducting cable installed, in addition to generating more than 800 jobs.
