CD Energy Direct Co., Ltd. (CD Energy), IRUMA GAS Co, Ltd. (IRUMA GAS), INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) and Toyo Asano Foundation Co., Ltd. (Toyo Asano) (the Investors) announced that Mizuhomachi Area Smart Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter 'Mizuhomachi'), which the Investors established in July 2019, has initiated a smart energy business (hereinafter 'Project') involving the targeted supply of power as well as the supply of heat (hot water and steam), upon the completion of all construction and a completion ceremony held today

The Project involves Mizuhomachi establishing the 'Mizuhomachi Area Smart Energy Union (hereinafter 'Union') with OKUTAMA KOGYO Co, Ltd., which has an operation in Mizuhomachi, Nishitama-gun, Tokyo Metropolis, as well as Sohshin Co, Ltd., Toyo Asano, FUJI CHEMICAL Co, Ltd. and The Tokyo Oil-manufacturing Cooperative.

Mizuhomachi then analyzes the energy data of each of the five Union members and facilitates the efficient regional supply and use of energy based on the fluctuating energy demand of the five businesses, which have different energy usage patterns.

This is done through Mizuhomachi's use of its Energy Center (hereinafter 'Center') as well as the construction and operation of supply infrastructure made up of Mizuhomachi's proprietary power lines and heat pipes.

The Center is equipped with a 9,780-kilowatt natural gas cogeneration facility with blackout start specifications

as well as a photovoltaic power generation facility on its rooftop and communications equipment for evacuees during natural disasters. The Center is adequately equipped to supply energy even during disasters.

The capability of starting cogeneration equipment in the event of a commercial power outage The Project is eligible for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's 'Smart Energy Area Formation Promotion Business' subsidy and is accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's (METI) collaborative energy conservation plan certification system, which was established based on greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. Mizuhomachi and the Union will contribute to the development of the local municipality through the Project, which integrates the management resources and business know how of each participant and seeks to improve energy saving and CO2 reduction by approximately 20 percent while contributing to the enhancement of disaster prevention capabilities in the area.
