Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited announced it has appointed Daniel Sonder as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Data Business, Markets. In his strategy role, Mr. Sonder will lead the Group Strategy function, working closely with the HKEX Management Committee and executives across the business, to deliver on the group's strategy and vision to build the Marketplace of the Future. In this capacity he will report to HKEX Chief Executive Officer, Nicolas Aguzin.

Mr. Sonder joined HKEX this year from Brazilian stock exchange, B3, where he was most recently CFO. Mr. Sonder will also become Head of Data Business, Markets, where, collaborating with Market Data Operations, he will lead the development of HKEX's data business, adding new data sets and services including ESG data to HKEX's existing offering, as well as overseeing the continued development of STAGE. Mr. Sonder joins two other senior leaders at the helm of HKEX Markets division's newly expanded Emerging Business Development team.

Andrew Walton joins HKEX this week as Managing Director and Head of Digital Assets, Markets. Mr. Walton will be responsible for driving the development of digital products and market facing digital platforms. And, Ken Chiu, who joined HKEX in 2018, becomes Head of Carbon and ESG Products, Markets, leading HKEX's efforts in developing carbon and ESG financial products, having recently helped establish and launch HKEX's Hong Kong International Carbon Council. All three executives in their Emerging Business Development roles will report to HKEX Co-Heads of Markets Glenda So and Wilfred Yiu.

Daniel Sonder: Mr. Sonder joined HKEX in 2022 from B3, where he was CFO and Investor Relations Officer. He joined B3 in 2013, and, in addition to his role as CFO, Mr. Sonder was responsible for overseeing its corporate philanthropy efforts. Previously, Mr. Sonder worked for seven years at Credit Suisse, where he was a managing director in their asset management division.

He has also worked in various roles for the Brazilian Development Bank and the Brazilian government. Mr. Sonder holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and International Relations from Tufts University in the US, as well as a masters degree in International Relations from Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Andrew Walton: Mr. Walton joins HKEX from Hong Kong-based digital asset platform OSL Digital Securities, where over the past year he was Managing Director and Head of Exchanges and Custody.

He previously held senior roles in companies that include software firm Block.one, as well as Australia-based exchange, Chi-X and UBS AG. Mr. Walton has a Bachelor of Business and Commerce from Monash University in Australia, as well as a Master of Project Management from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Business Administration from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management. Ken Chiu: Mr. Chiu joined HKEX in 2018, and was Senior Vice President in the group's Fixed Income and Currency Development team, before moving to the Emerging Business Development team, both in the Markets Division, in 2021.

Previously, Mr. Chiu worked at BNP Paribas for 11 years in a number of senior roles, including Head of Global Markets in Beijing, and Head of FX Structuring Asia. He has a Bachelor of Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a Master of Science in Mathematics for Finance and Actuarial Science from the Universit Paris-Dauphine.
