Hanwha Group's defense affiliates, including Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha System, and Hanwha Ocean, will demonstrate comprehensive defense capabilities in air, land, sea and space defense solutions at the upcoming Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2023. With 550 defense companies from 34 countries in attendance, ADEX will be the largest since its inception in 2009. As South Korea's leading company in aerospace, defense, and space technology, Hanwha is dedicated to meeting the demands of global security in the face of a difficult global security landscape.

Pioneering the Future: Hanwha's Revolutionary Role in Radar Technology and the Emerging Space Economy

In the 'Space Zone' Hanwha will display models of the space launch vehicle Nuri and Korea's first Lunar Orbiter, Danuri, developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute.

Hanwha, being the only company in Korea to have entire value chain of the space industry, will demonstrate command and reconnaissance solutions from ground to space. Three radars designed to detect ground attacks and three satellites capable of extraterrestrial communication and observation will be presented by Hanwha Systems. 1) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites can provide high-quality image data regardless of weather or time of day. 2) Infrared satellites use infrared signals to detect enemy assaults quickly. 3) Communication satellites developed by OneWeb, the company Hanwha Systems have invested, enable continuous connectivity even when terrestrial networks are disrupted.

Defense solutions for detecting adversary nuclear and missile attacks from the ground are also on display. Exhibits include the Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile (L-SAM) Radar, which defends against ballistic missiles at a higher intercept altitude, the Multi-Function Radar of the Middle-range Range Surface-to-Air Missile(M-SAM) Chungoong, and the Multiful Launch Rocket Systems(MRLS) Mulkti-Functional Radar, which counters North Korean long-range artillery. These defense solutions aim to establish a vast air defense network.

Hanwha is also leveraging space technology to create a hyper-connected community in which urban air mobility (UAM), smart ships, and autonomous vehicles can interact reliably via satellite technology, backed up by AI-driven data services that analyze huge data from satellite observations.

Future Warfare: AI-Powered and Unmanned Infantry Fighting Vehicles

In response to population decline, Hanwha's unmanned technology, which will require fewer troops, will also be on display. Unmanned search and rescue vehicles are outfitted with a variety of tools, such as lasers, guided munitions, remote fire control systems, and mine detection devices. These vehicles have priority access to operational areas over personnel. Hanwha Aerospace's Arion-SMET, a next-generation unmanned ground vehicle, will also be on display. The United States Marine Corps plans to test this vehicle in December of this year.

Hanwha Ocean will unveil its unmanned power command and control ship, the "Ghost Commander" system. As an alternative to the Navy's smart navy, it is an unmanned combat system that issues commands without a crewmember on board.

Hanwha will also display strategic export items aimed at growing Korea's defense industry into one of the country's future industries. A fully automated turret variant of the company's best-selling K9 self-propelled howitzer will be presented alongside the Chunmoo, Multi Rocket Launcher System, which was awarded a significant contract with Poland last year. The Redback, a combat infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) that was selected for the Australian Army's next-generation armored vehicle in July of this year, will also be on display in Korea for the first time. The Jangbogo-III Batch-II, a diesel-electric-powered submarine that has piqued the interest of Canada, Poland, and the Philippines, will also be on display.
