HAMBURG (dpa-AFX) - The trade union Verdi has called on employees of the Port of Hamburg to go on strike on Friday. A second round of negotiations with the Central Association of German Seaport Operators over better wages failed to produce results on Thursday, the union announced. "The offer presented by the employers is completely inadequate," said Verdi negotiator Maren Ulbrich. In order to exert pressure, the union called on dockworkers to stop work on Friday from 5.30 am until late in the evening. According to Verdi, around 6000 employees at the Port of Hamburg are affected by the collective bargaining round. Among other things, the union is demanding an increase in hourly wages of three euros as of June 1 and a corresponding increase in shift bonuses./pul/DP/zb
