General Motors Company appointed Mike Abbott as its executive vice president of software effective May 22. Abbott is to report directly to CEO Mary Barra. Abbott was earlier vice president of engineering for Apple's cloud services division and a partner at investment firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers.
