Can the Ready Tied Rig really compete with Hand Tied Rigs? That is a question many people ask themselves. A few days ago, I got my hands on a few of the Korda Ready Tied Stiff Hinge Rigs. I pondered whether you can truly put faith in a rig tied by someone else, or whether the quality and presentation are the same.

For both research and fun, I headed to the Specimen Lake in Milton Keynes. As I entered Peg 10, I noticed a few fish topping close by. This is where I decided to set up. I fed some 10-12mm boilies to the island with my throwing stick in a tight group just under a low hanging branch. I set the rods up and got a stiff hinge rig out of pack straight away. The Korda Rigs had me thoroughly impressed as upon close inspection I noticed how well they were tied. Looking at the hook point, I noticed how sharp and was thoroughly impressed by how it seemed to be just like any other hook.

Then came the time to put on some real and threaded some imitation corn onto some baiting floss. I was ready. I casted to within 6 inches of island. Now the wait was on. As someone who has used a wide variety of different rigs, I was impressed and confident in the quality and visuals of these rigs. However, the only way to know for sure is to catch.

The morning went fairly slow. A few bites here and there. I continued to trickle the bait in. Around 3pm I had a screaming take and after a 15-minute battle a lovely 20lb 5oz common had fallen to the net. I was ecstatic. While unhooking the fish I noticed the strong hook hold in the lip. I was impressed by the placement and hook hold it gave. This was as good as any other rig that I have tried and it saved a lot of time and money. For the first time this made me think that it is possible to buy a ready tied rig in the same quality and faith as my own did. However, to check that this wasn't a random occurrence I casted the rig straight back out, and within minutes of the rod hitting the water it screamed off again. After an average scrap for 10 minutes, another one was in the net. This time a 14lb 7oz two tone mirror, another beautiful fish. Again, I noticed the strong hook hold.

I was impressed, to say the least. I returned the fish back to the water and packed up, heading for the car heavily in thought about the quality and performance of these ready tied rigs. I came to the conclusion these ready-made rigs are as good as any of my own and I had as much confidence in them as my own. Korda had succeeded in changing my attitude and mind to ready tied rigs. What more could you ask for in a product? Needless to say, I'm now converted and will be incorporating these into my angling as they save time and money.

Tight lines, Bobby
