Engie S A : Energy efficiency and smart building for the University of Milan

ENGIE Italy has signed a 2.5M€, 3-year contract with the University of Milan, with the aim of improving the efficiency of current energy installations. The university, with its 81 sites (faculties, university veterinarian hospital, libraries), covers 174,000 square meters, and is hoping to become a leading ecological and sustainable site in the new town of Milan.

ENGIE will be using a dedicated IT system, accessible from SmartPhones and Tablets, to monitor systems, reduce energy consumption and warn of malfunctions. A new 'virtual call centre' will also be set up.

Olivier Jacquier, CEO of ENGIE Italy, declared : 'Investing in Energy Efficiency will contribute to reducing energy bills, improving environmental comfort and safety, as well as significantly improving the value of the buildings. The development of energy recovery activities will provide a major benefit to the Italian national economy. The example set by the public sector is a determining factor for all. What the university has achieved, will certainly represent the best practice to follow'.

Thanks to this new and more efficient management process, we guarantee improved quality of life throughout the university and improved communications with the population.

At this, the start of the school year, more than 60,000 persons (teachers, technical & administrative staff, students) are present each day on the University of Milan site. They now have the benefit of buildings run by an integrated management system, which are more functional, safer and use less energy.
