Eco Building Products, Inc. announced that Eco Red Shield(TM) coatings, manufactured by Eco Building Products, Inc., recently achieved QAI Laboratories (QAI) listing B1053-1, providing evidence that Eco Red Shield's fire protection qualities now meets building code requirements for Class "A" flammability performance on all solid sawn lumber, making Eco Red Shield protected lumber equivalent to the traditionally accepted fire retardant treated wood (FRTW) for interior use. Achieving the QAI listing for Flame spread properties renders Eco Red Shield protection applied to solid sawn lumber the first topical wood treatment of its kind for interior Class "A" flammability, Wood Ingesting Organisms including Formosan Termites and Wood--Rot Decay to meet building code requirements. Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and others utilize QAI listings and product labeling to provide a basis for using or approving Eco Red Shield coated lumber products in construction projects under the International Building Code.

QAI Laboratories (QAI) is a leader in testing, inspection, and certification of building products for manufacturers and retailers, ensuring that Eco Red Shield protection meets or exceeds current building code requirements for the intended application. QAI has qualified the Colton, California facility to produce Eco Red Shield protected lumber to meet FRTW building code requirements. QAI and The company are contractually committed to ongoing factory auditing programs, and the follow-on qualification of the company's seven other production sites.

The company successfully tested Eco Red Shield coatings to meet ASTM E84 Class "A" thirty minute extended testing typically achieved using pressure treatment methodology. Eco Red Shield topical treatment meets the same performance requirements allowing the end user an alternative that does not expose users to potentially toxic or harmful chemicals, twisting or warped lumber and potential corrosive properties. Eco Red Shield protection is the world's first code compliant fire retardant treated wood product to meet GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification(sm), criteria ensuring end-user compliance with indoor air quality standards developed to be safe for the children.

No other product of this type exists in the world, bearing building code acceptance, with the exception of Eco Red Shield protection, creating a true Eco-Friendly Technically Advanced Building Material, revolutionizing the building products industry. QAI Laboratories certification of Eco Red Shield protection meets the following criteria: ASTM E84 - "Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials"; UL 723 -- "Standard Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials" extended for 20 minute duration; NFPA 255 - "Standard Method Test of Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials" extended 20 minutes; UBC 8-1 - "Test Method for Surface-Burning Characteristics of Building Materials" extended 20 minutes duration; ASTM E2768 -- "Standard Test Method for Extended Duration Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials (30 min Tunnel Test)". The company tested representative solid sawn lumber achieving a maximum flame spread index of 15 and a maximum smoke developed index of 15 with the flame front advancing less than 10.5 feet in the testing chamber for when exposed to a duration of 30 minutes.

ECOB is committed to additional testing to achieve plywood acceptance and certification under the same criteria. Eco Red Shield protection now meets the following International Building Code requirements 2009 International Building Code 2303.2 for interior applications.
