FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Telekom < DE000555750> subsidiary T-Mobile US is said to be considering acquiring low-cost carrier Mint Mobile, according to sources familiar with the matter. Corresponding talks have already been held, the Bloomberg news agency reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. However, no decision has been made so far. A spokesperson for T-Mobile US declined to comment when asked by Bloomberg, and media representatives for Mint Mobile could not be reached for comment in a timely manner.

Mint Mobile has been partly owned by Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool") since 2019 and targets particularly price-sensitive customers. Mint uses the T-Mobile wireless network for its services and offers cheaper rates than major providers such as Verizon and AT&T, he said. In order to be able to realize the low prices, Mint Mobile does without sales staff and stores in retail stores. Instead, the rates are advertised exclusively online./ngu/mis/stk
