CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) _ City Holding Co. (CHCO) on Monday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $22 million.

The Charleston, West Virginia-based bank said it had earnings of $1.40 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.05 per share.

The bank holding company for City National Bank of West Virginia posted revenue of $60.2 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $55.9 million, also surpassing Street forecasts.

For the year, the company reported profit of $88.7 million, or $5.55 per share. Revenue was reported as $237.3 million.

City Holding shares have risen roughly 3% since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 11% in the last 12 months.
