Paris, Jan 17 (EFE).- Airbus announced on Friday that it had reached an agreement with the China Aircraft Leasing Group (CALC) for the sale of 40 units of its A321neo aircraft.

The model is the company's largest in terms of capacity within the family of planes that has a single aisle.

"CALC's order is an endorsement for the A321neo and reaffirms the market demand for the aircraft," Airbus said in a statement.

The European aircraft manufacturer said that the contract also includes the conversion of 15 A320neo aircraft into A321neos - a modernized version of the same model with new engines and elements that improve its aerodynamics, according to the company.

Taking a previous order into account, the total order of the Chinese aircraft solutions provider rose to 66 units of the A321neo.

The plane has a capacity to seat between 180-220 passengers in a standard configuration and a maximum of 240.

Its latest catalogue price was $129.5 million per unit.

According to Airbus, the A321neo consumes 20 percent less fuel than the same plane of the previous generation, and generates 50 percent less noise.

For now, CALC has bought 252 planes from the single aisle A320 Airbus family, of which it has received 87. One of those is an A321neo.

There have been over 15,300 orders of the A320 family placed and over 9,000 aircraft have been delivered worldwide, according to the manufacturer. EFE
