BT appoints Luca Zappia to lead its operations in Switzerland

BT today announced the appointment of Luca Zappia as country manager for Switzerland, effective February 1st.

In his new role, Mr Zappia will be in charge of BT Switzerland, serving the needs of multinational companies and organisations headquartered in the country.

BT has been active on the Swiss market since 1989 with offices in Zurich, Geneva, Bern and Basel. BT's customer base in the country includes many leading global brands in the consumer packaged goods industry, in global banking and financial markets, global logistics, manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors and international government organisations.

Olivier Campenon, BT president E*MEA , said: "Switzerland is of strategic importance to BT due to the large number of global organisations based in the country. I am pleased that an experienced pair of hands like Luca's will be looking after our Swiss customers, who increasingly rely on BT for their global networking needs. Luca's breadth of experience will help us get close to the customers in order to understand and address their networking requirements."

Mr Zappia joined BT in 2005 and has held a variety of roles, including director of marketing for Switzerland and chief operating officer, E*MEA. Most recently, he was in charge of BT's growing operations across the Middle East and Africa. Before joining BT, Mr Zappia held positions of head of corporate sales as well as head of portfolio and innovation at Swisscom Solutions. He has more than 15 years of experience in telecommunications and has worked across different countries and cultures throughout his career.

Mr Zappia is a trained lawyer. He holds a masters' degree in European Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles as well as Master of Arts in Law and Economics from the University of St Gallen, Switzerland. Mr Zappia is a Swiss national and lives in Zurich. He speaks five languages fluently.

Mr Zappia said: "I believe BT enjoys a unique position in Switzerland with its rich portfolio of truly global networked IT services that underpin the operations of multinational companies in Switzerland. I am very excited about this new opportunity and look forward to working more closely with some of the world's best known companies."

Mr Zappia replaces Susanne Ruoff, who will leave BT at the end of February, ensuring a smooth handover.
