BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - Chancellor Olaf Scholz has issued an invitation to a top-level meeting on the future of the automotive industry at the Chancellor's Office on Tuesday (2 p.m.). Representatives from business, labor, science, the states and local authorities are expected to take part in the first discussion of the so-called "Transformation of the Automotive and Mobility Industry" strategy platform. The main purpose is likely to be an exchange of views.

According to the German government, the focus is on the goal of climate neutrality and at the same time maintaining value creation and employment in Germany. Climate neutrality means that only as many greenhouse gases are emitted as can be recaptured. Germany aims to achieve this goal by 2045.

In addition to Scholz, Economics Minister Robert Habeck, Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, Finance Minister Christian Lindner, Transport Minister Volker Wissing and Labor Minister Hubertus Heil are expected to attend on behalf of the German government.

The heads of the car companies Mercedes, Volkswagen and BMW, Ola Källenius, Oliver Blume and Oliver Zipse, are also expected to attend. Lower Saxony's head of government Stephan Weil, as the current chairman of the Conference of Minister Presidents, is also expected to attend.
