A new exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London called Charles I: King and Collector, in partnership with Royal Collection Trust and sponsored by BNY Mellon, is now open.

During his reign, Britain's King Charles I amassed one of the most extraordinary art collections; acquiring works by Holbein, Titian and Mantegna, amongst others, as well as commissioning leading contemporary artists such as Van Dyck and Rubens.

Following the king's execution in 1649, his collection was sold off and scattered across Europe. While many works were retrieved by Charles II during the Restoration, others now form the core of museums such as the Louvre and the Prado.

Charles I: King and Collector reunites the greatest masterpieces of this magnificent collection for the first time and will include 140 works, ranging from classical sculptures to Baroque paintings; exquisite miniatures to monumental tapestries.

The exhibition opened on Saturday, January 27, and runs until April 15, 2018.

If you are visiting London during the time of the exhibition, tickets are available online via this link.
