After a hesitant morning, the Paris Bourse regained some color in the second half of the session, ending the day with a gain of 0.69% at 7,034 points, helped by L'Oréal (+2.5%), Teleperformance (+2.1%) and Sanofi (+2%).

The "highlight" at the end of the day was the continuation of the oil debacle, with Brent crude down 1.3% to around $80 a barrel.

On the statistics front, retail sales volumes fell by 0.3% in the eurozone in September 2023 compared with the previous month, and by 0.2% in the EU, according to Eurostat estimates, following declines of 0.7% and 0.5% respectively in August.

Compared with the same month in 2022, the retail sales index fell by 2.9% in the eurozone and by 2.7% in the EU last September, compared with annual variations observed in August of 1.8% in both cases.

In Germany, inflation continued to decelerate in October, reaching its lowest level since August 2021, confirmed data published on Wednesday by Destatis, the Federal Statistical Institute.

The increase in the consumer price index harmonized to European standards (HICP) was confirmed at 3% last month in annual variation, announces the federal office in an information note.

From one month to the next, the consumer price index fell by 0.2%, mainly due to the decline in petrol prices, but also in vacation prices.

Finally, due to maintenance work on its IT systems, the US Energy Agency (EIA) postponed the publication of weekly oil inventories by a week.

On the bond front, US T-Bonds eased -3.2pts to 4.54%, returning to last Friday's levels.

Ditto for Bunds with -4.5pts to 2.623%, for our OATs with -5.3pts to 3.2100%, and -7.2pts on Italian BTPs to 4.485%.

The euro remains stable against the greenback, at around $1.07/euro.

In French corporate news, Crédit Agricole SA reports, for the third quarter of 2023 and on an underlying basis, a 23% increase in net income, group share, to 1.52 billion euros, and a 20.6% increase in gross operating income to 2.68 billion.

For the first nine months of the year, Legrand reported a 15.5% increase in net income to 937.2 million euros, and a 1.4 point improvement in adjusted operating margin to 21.6% (21.9% before acquisitions and Russia).

Renault and Nissan announced on Wednesday that they had opened a new chapter in their alliance with the entry into force of the agreement providing for a rebalancing of their cross-shareholding, which will now be limited to 15%.

SWISSto12 announced the development of electronically steerable active antennas (AESA) for airborne, land and sea platforms in collaboration with Thales.

Finally, Eutelsat announced on Wednesday that it had been selected by MediaMobil, an Internet service provider in remote areas, to deploy maritime connectivity services.
