The Paris Bourse closed the session with a gain of 1.39% to 7185 points, driven in particular by strong performances from Worldline (+8.2%), URW (+7.2%) and Alstom (+5.6%).

The Paris index was buoyed by the publication of the US CPI. According to the Labor Department, the US consumer price index rose by 3.2% in October compared with the same month in 2022, an annual rate 0.5 points lower than in September, and slightly below Jefferies' expectations.

These figures allay fears of a tightening of US monetary policy in December, but also by May 2024.

Excluding energy and food, two traditionally volatile categories, the annual inflation rate stood at 4% last month, again slightly below the broker's forecast (4.1%).

On the bond market, the readjustment of the rate hike outlook has resulted in a sharp fall in Treasury yields, with ten-year paper easing by 18 basis points to 4.456%.

In Europe, the easing of OATs and Bunds seems to be mirroring that of T-Bonds, with -13 basis points and -12 basis points to 3.16% and 2.60% respectively.

At the same time, the dollar depreciated sharply against the euro (-1.3%), which took advantage of this to climb back to around $1.0835/euro, its highest level since early September.

The euro was also bolstered against the dollar and other currencies by a ZEW economic sentiment index for Germany - reflecting the expectations of German financial market experts - which climbed 10.9 points in November to 9.8, returning to positive territory for the first time since April.

Increased economic expectations are accompanied by a much more optimistic outlook for the German industrial sector and for stock markets at home and abroad", emphasizes ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach.
