Weekly export sales of U.S. grains reported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture arrived within trader expectations.

In its weekly report issued Thursday, the USDA said that export sales of wheat for the week ended Dec. 7 rose to 1.49 million metric tons in the 2023/24 marketing year. Soybean sales were 1.08 million tons for the period, and corn sales were 1.42 million tons.

Wheat sales were in the middle of projections of grain traders surveyed by The Wall Street Journal and were up sharply from 356,400 tons reported the prior week. The USDA reported a streak of flash export sales to China earlier this month.

Grain futures were mostly higher in premarket trading on the CBOT Thursday, led by a 1.3% gain in wheat prices. Corn futures rose 0.7% and soybeans gained 0.4%.
