U.S. grain export inspections are higher this week but continue to lag behind last week's figures.

In its latest grain export inspections report for the week ended Jan. 12, the U.S. Agriculture Department said corn export inspections totaled 774,461 metric tons, soybean inspections totaled 2.08 million tons, and wheat inspections totaled 320,463 tons.

For the 2022/23 marketing year, corn export inspections are down 30% from the previous marketing year, still well off from the previous year. Wheat and soybean inspection figures are also off from last year's figures but by thinner margins.

China was the leading destination for U.S. corn and soybeans, and the Philippines were the leading destination with wheat. Corn and soybean export estimates came in higher than expected by traders, said Terry Reilly of Futures International.

Grain futures trading on the CBOT are higher. Most-active futures up 1.2% for corn, up 0.5% for soybeans and up 1.3% for wheat.
