Stéphane Abrial is an engineer from the French Air Force academy (École de l'Air de Salon-de-Provence).
He started his career as a fighter pilot in 1977.
After several military roles, Stéphane Abrial was assigned as Commander of Air Defence and Air Operations (2005) and Chief of Staff of the Air Force with the rank of General (2006).
In 2009, Stéphane Abrial was appointed by the 28 NATO nations as Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, located in Norfolk (Virginia - United States) and held this position until 2012.
He was the first non-American Officer to be selected as one of the two NATO Strategic Commanders.
In 2013, General Abrial joined Safran as Advisor to Jean-Paul Herteman (CEO of Safran), before being appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
His current responsibilities include International and Public Affairs, Program offices, Trade compliance, and Offsets.
He holds several positions as Director of the Atlantic Council, member of the Advisory Board of Institut Aspen France and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Paris Air and Space Museum (Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace).
