Western Asset Municipal High Income Fund Inc. announced earnings results for the quarter ended July 31, 2016. For the quarter, the company reported total net investment income of $1,747,371 or $0.08 per share against $2,095,189 or $0.10 per share a year ago. Total net realized/unrealized gain was $3,020,184 or $0.14 per share against loss of $2,962,762 or $0.14 per share a year ago. Net increase in net assets from operations was $4,767,555 or $0.22 per share against loss of $867,573 or $0.04 per share a year ago. NAV per share of common stock was $8.16 against $7.95 a year ago.
Western Asset Municipal High Income Fund Inc. is a diversified, closed-end management investment company. The Fundâs investment objective is to seek high current income exempt from federal income taxes. The Fund seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing primarily in intermediate-and long-term municipal debt securities issued by state and local governments (municipal obligations). However, the Fund may invest in municipal obligations of any maturity. The Fund may invest up to 100% of its assets in municipal obligations rated below investment grade (junk bonds). The Fund's portfolio of investments includes transportation, industrial, healthcare, leasing, water and sewer, special tax, local general obligation, education, other, and cash and cash equivalents.
