(Alliance News) - Webuild Spa announced Wednesday that it will carry out works for the EUR4.7 billion ski destination of Trojena, Saudi Arabia.

It is a "unique infrastructural intervention to create in a desert area a resort of the future with dams, a lake, and iconic architectural works," the company announced.

More than 10,000 people, including direct and third-party personnel, are estimated to be employed to carry out the works, commissioned by client Neom.

Webuild will build a system of three dams that will feed the ski complex's freshwater lake and innovative related works.

Webuild will also build the futuristic Bow, an architectural structure that will extend the surface of the lake beyond the front of the main dam, will be shaped like the prow of a ship suspended over the valley, and will house a luxury hotel, as well as a residential area and a large central atrium, with accommodation facilities.

The main dam will be made of rolled and compacted concrete, will be 145 meters high, 475 meters long, with a volume of about 2.7 million cubic meters. The second dam will also be RCC, while the third will be rock, with a volume of 4.3 million cubic meters. The reservoir will cover an area of 1.5 square kilometers, with an island reserved for botanical diving and walking.

The lake, which will be the largest architecturally realized body of water in Saudi Arabia, is a central element of the Lava-designed Trojena development plan. Located in the heart of the area, it will play a key role in the development and regeneration of Trojena, as it will allow people to experience the mountains while becoming a hub for water sports and entertainment.

Webuild CEO Pietro Salini commented, "We are delighted and truly proud to have won this important project in Neom. The 2.8-kilometer-long freshwater reservoir will be a key asset in Trojena's development plan. The project is set to become an international engineering marvel, and we believe our team has the experience and expertise gained globally to deliver this incredible infrastructure work."

Philip Gullett, executive director of Trojena, said, "The award to Webuild represents a significant milestone in the creation of one of Trojena's key assets. We have already completed about three million cubic meters of excavation at the lake site and continue to excavate 90,000 cubic meters of rock per week. Another important element, we are implementing a sustainable approach by reusing the excavated material for landscaping the lake bottom and building the dams. This is a crucial phase in the overall development of Trojena, and we are excited to see the next step of the work begin."

For Neom, Webuild is already building 57 kilometers of the Connector, the high-speed rail line that will connect "Oxagon" to "The Line." In Saudi Arabia, Webuild is also building the Metro Line 3 in Riyadh, which at 42 kilometers will be the longest in the Saudi capital's metro network, and the "Diriyah Square - Package 2 Super-Basement Works," the structure in the new Ad-Diriyah district intended to accommodate a 10,500-space underground multi-storey parking lot.

With its subsidiary Fisia Italimpianti, it is then engaged in the construction and subsequent operation of the water treatment plant for the onshore ZULUF oil complex.

Webuild's stock is up 1.5 percent at EUR1.89 per share.
