Partnership with International Sustainable Fashion Design Competition Aligns with Committed to More™ Approach

UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced that it will support The EcoChic Design Award 2014/2015 (the "Award") as the Official Logistics Partner. The Award is the world's first international sustainable fashion design competition which brings together Asian and European fashion designers that share a vision for an environmentally friendly fashion industry.

"The sponsorship of The EcoChic Design Award exemplifies UPS's "Committed to More™" approach towards sustainability and social responsibility, which is a promise to do more for the environment, our customers and our communities around the world. As one of the largest global logistics players, UPS strives to support our customers in the most efficient and responsible ways possible," said William Ng, Managing Director of UPS Hong Kong and Macau. "By continuing to innovate, adapt and collaborate with likeminded organisations, we hope to have greater positive long-term impact on the environment regionally and globally."

"It's great to work with a globally-renowned logistics company that echoes The EcoChic Design Award's sustainable values. Just as we believe that there should be no fashion or functional compromises when it comes to sustainable fashion, UPS applies similar principles to deliver faultless logistics service that incorporates a vast range of integrated sustainability initiatives; from the carbon neutral shipping option to employing the use of alternative fuel vehicles. Thanks to UPS, we are delivering our goal of running the world's top sustainable fashion design competition and ensuring that the biggest impact is on our global audiences, rather than on the environment," said Christina Dean, Founder and CEO of Redress.

UPS's sponsorship entails small package delivery services of The EcoChic Design Award finalists' collections, created from fabric and textile waste, needed for the award's showcase that will take place from January 19-22, 2015 at Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Fashion Week.

After the Grand Final, UPS will also manage the logistics of the touring international exhibition which involves the transportation of finalists' designs, exhibition props and mannequins to the finalists' home countries. Running from January to March 2015, the tour will span two continents, covering four European cities and four Asian cities, in addition to the award's home base Hong Kong.

To demonstrate UPS's commitment to sustainability, all Redress packages will be shipped carbon neutral and transported via UPS's hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) on ground in Hong Kong to reduce the project's carbon footprint. UPS CarbonNeutral® is just one of the ways that Redress reduces their impact on the environment. Support for the development and use of lower-emission alternative fuels is one of the cornerstones of UPS's environmental strategy. With vehicles representing approximately 35 percent of UPS's carbon footprint, UPS is committed to accelerating its testing, purchase and deployment of new-generation vehicles.

UPS launched its first Asian HEVs in Hong Kong as part of the organisation's ongoing sustainability efforts around the world. Since their introduction into the global UPS fleet in 1998, HEVs have shown a 35 percent improvement in fuel economy over conventional vehicles.

About The EcoChic Design Award

The EcoChic Design Award is a sustainable fashion design competition inspiring emerging fashion designers and students to create mainstream clothing with minimal textile waste. Designers are educated with the theory and techniques to enable them to create sustainable clothing via zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction. The competition puts emerging sustainable design talent in the spotlight, creating a platform for the next generation of designers to cut waste out of fashion. The inaugural EcoChic Design Award was launched in Hong Kong in 2011 and previous cycles also include Hong Kong 2012, China 2012, and the 2013 cycle was open to eight regions across Asia and Europe.
