Last Wednesday in Madrid, Tubacex joined industry leaders at a panel discussion organized by elEconomista and moderated by Rubén Esteller. The event featured discussions on the pivotal role of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies in achieving climate goals, with insights from representatives of Repsol, Holcim, Tecnicas Reunidas and Iberdrola.
Miguel Gómez Lacabex, Director of the Low Carbon Division at Tubacex, provided a detailed overview of the company's strategic initiatives under Tubacex's NT2 strategic plan, focusing on CCUS. He highlighted the company's commitment to deploying advanced industrial solutions for CCUS projects globally, including in the United States, Norway, and Malaysia. His presentation underscored the importance of CCUS technology in facilitating the transition to net-zero emissions by 2050, particularly in sectors like steel or cement production where CO2 is an inevitable byproduct.
The conference also addressed the significant regulatory and financial challenges facing CCUS deployment in Spain. It highlighted the disparities between the costs associated with CO2 capture and the investments required, which are exacerbated by the current regulatory and financial barriers. This emphasizes the urgent need for ongoing policy development to enhance the economic viability of CCUS technologies.
Furthermore, Miguel reiterated Tubacex's dedication to reducing carbon emissions by providing effective technologies and solutions that tackle this formidable challenge. He emphasized the company's strategic contribution to supporting carbon emitters, including Tubacex itself, in reducing their environmental impact. The event served as a critical platform for calling on all industry stakeholders to expedite the development and application of technologies that can convert emissions into opportunities for sustainable growth, moving closer to the environmental targets set for the coming decades.
