Chairman Shuzo Sumi named to the Insurance Hall of Fame

Shuzo Sumi, Chairman of Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. has been named to the Insurance Hall of Fame, which is administered by the International Insurance Society, Inc. (hereinafter IIS).

The Insurance Hall of Fame was founded in 1957 and recognizes individuals world-wide who have made significant contributions to the advancement of insurance industry on both theoretical and practical fronts.

２．About this year's award

The Insurance Hall of Fame for 2018 has been solely named to our Chairman Sumi, the first person in fourteen years from the Japanese non-life insurance industry.

According to the IIS, the main reason for this award is that Mr. Sumi led Tokio Marine's overseas expansion and business process reforms which solidified its position as a market leader, and that he challenged conventional standards in the aftermath of the East Japan Earthquake of 2011 in order toexpedite claims to provide relief for those in desperate need, exemplifying the role and purpose of the insurance industry.

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on July 9th, 2018 during the IIS Global Insurance Forum in Berlin, Germany.
