TORONTO, Jan. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Employee charitable giving reached an all-time high for TD Bank Group, which today announced that employees and retirees from across Canada raised $10.3 million and $2.2 million in the United States in support of its 2011 TD United Way Employee Giving Campaign. Combined with TD's cross-border corporate donations of $5 million, this year's campaign, which ran from November 14 to December 2, generated a total of $17.5 million to support United Way agencies and other registered charities across North America.

"It makes me particularly proud that TD employees across North America remain passionately committed to giving back and helping those in need," said Ed Clark, Group President and CEO of TD Bank Group, and former Chairman for United Way Toronto's 2010 Cabinet. "Despite tough economic times, we continue to go that extra mile to help. We deeply care about making the communities where we work and live healthier, safer and more prosperous."

This year's employee campaign generated record-breaking funds. Every dollar from the campaign goes directly to United Way and other registered charities in North America to support programs such as food banks, shelters and other vital social service initiatives in hundreds of communities.

"TD has a strong track record of giving back to support United Way, its agencies and other charities, and this year's campaign is no different," said Teri Currie, Group Head, Direct Channels, Corporate & People Strategies and Executive Cabinet Chair for the 2011 TD United Way Employee Giving Campaign. "We take great pride in knowing that our donation dollars and volunteer efforts will impact tens of thousands of lives and make a real difference to those who need it most."

Since 2000, TD employees and retirees have raised more than $92 million for United Way and other charitable organizations across North America as part of its annual fundraising campaign.
